Planes, Rains, and Automobiles

Standing in the line to check my lonely-looking green duffle bag before my flight, I felt a shift.
A shift of what, I don't know. Gears? Consciousness? Destiny? Unsure. Just some significant change. Maybe the realization that my life will be unrecognizably different for the next five months.

Plane. I WOULD have a seat smack dab between two toddlers. NO, adorable little Indian boy, I DON"T want any more veggie sticks. There aren't even any green ones.

Dubai airport. So fancy. I learned about indoor ski resorts and highrise futuristic buildings. Found fellow CIEE-ers while waiting.

Hyderabad! 2:55 AM, surrounded by jostling, bustling, earth-toned noises and people.
Stepped out of the airport to meet the cool wet air of Monsoon season, a hint of something spicy in each breath.

Cars. Not kidding, like Mario Kart. Only instead of red shells there are mini motor bikes and instead of the "d-d-duuh-d-duh-duh-d-duhh-duuh" music of the mutlicolored star its just the nearly constant stream of honking. But really, I swear, it's the same.

Gecko on the wall of the bathroom.

Kyra and I completely overslept today and missed the campus walk. We instead went on a mini adventure and ended up rain-soaked on granite plateau dappled with lush green plants. So many beautiful trees. Bizarrely bright pink and yellow flowers, birds whose calls I don't recognize, red red red dirt.

Overcast, but a shifting multi-colored overcast with a million different shades of grey. The air is thick in my lungs here. A wonderfully heavy sort of thick that reminds me that I'm thousands of miles away from home.

A thickness that is absolutely liberating.
